Step 1. Add a generous 1/2 teaspoon (or 1 teaspoon if you prefer a stronger taste) of matcha powder to a dash of warm but not boiling water.
Step 2. Stir well and use the back of a spoon to dissolve the powder into a matcha syrup or paste. If using a bamboo whisk, whisk the matcha in a W shape until frothy.
Step 3. Pour in 200ml of your preferred milk (coconut or almond milk is the most popular).
Step 4. Portable frother: If you have a frother at home, you can follow the steps above.
Stovetop/Microwave: If you don’t have a frother at home, you can heat your milk on a stovetop or in the microwave and then pour it in with the matcha syrup, stirring well.
Blender: If you want to create a frothy effect but don’t have a milk frother, one trick is to add all the ingredients to a blender to create a beautiful frothy effect.

Heard of Matcha Madeleines? These are French cookies flavoured with the Matcha that we all know and love! Side note: they pair perfectly with Japanese Sencha tea.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup unsalted butter, (plus 1 tbsp for coating the pans)
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 1 cup plain flour (plus 1 tbsp for dusting the pans)
- ¼ tsp kosher salt (use half for table salt)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp Matcha powder
- 2 large room temperature eggs (50g each without the shell)
- 1 tbsp room temperature whole milk
- Optional for dusting – 1 tbsp powdered sugar
